As well as revealing the qualities of Lewis Hamilton that have impressed Russell, he also said he is in a “privileged position” driving alongside his Mercedes teammate.
Russell has three podium finishes in his full-time Mercedes career and hasn’t finished lower than P5 in any of the races so far in2022. Russell leads Hamilton by 34 points in the drivers’ standings.
Russell acknowledges there is room for improvement in his 2022 season, but he quickly turned to Hamilton, revealing that watching behind the scenes of his teammate has inspired him.
Russell said, “I think it’s been a good start to the season so far. “It’s a privilege to work with Lewis and to discover so much from him. Lewis inspires the entire group with his work ethic and dedication to motivating his engineers.
As far as technical skills go, he is pretty impressive, which has not been recognized or appreciated by many people. We can yet do better, but I believe the outcomes speak for themselves. To be honest, i don’t think we would have achieved much higher results if I looked at the season rationally. I’d say that aside from Bahrain, we probably finished every single race as high as we could.
“As a team, I believe we did a tremendous job maximizing the points at our disposal. Therefore, you must see things positively and work to maintain the current momentum. And maybe we’ll be in good condition to compete for those victories once we have a quicker car”
Russell is the only one on the grid to have scored points in every race, and while he would have preferred to be a race winner by this point in the season, Briton has decided to emphasize the positives because he thinks he and Mercedes have developed their W13 to provide the greatest performance possible.
